I probably hate to put this in media & "arts"

I'm looking for a movie, the bad part is I haven't seen the entire movie and am pretty sure it wasn't stellar but I've been trying to find it off and on for about 7 years or so. The movie involves a male person who's a private investigator or detective. I think he's the target of a number of murder attempts. There's a woman involved and every time she appears it seems there's less and less of her remaining because of accidents, amputations etc. I think I saw the movie about 7 years ago while I was in Vermont on business, not that the location matters. I may have only seen the ending but it was so bizarre that it's stuck with me.
